Duties
The Learning and Active Flex Technology Specialist serves as the primary contact for the design, installation, and delivery of classroom learning technologies and audio/visual support services. This person is also a consultant to faculty in the selection and use of physical and virtual technologies to accomplish learning outcomes. Finally, this person oversees the delivery of audio/visual technologies and support services for university meetings and events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Develop technology services and solutions to address classroom learning needs
o Analyze, plan, implement, and manage technologies for instructional spaces that support both classroom and Active Flex teaching modalities.
o Conduct research on current technologies and related strategies that support active learning spaces.
o Engage with consultants and service providers to specify, source, purchase, and install learning technologies in classrooms and other institutional spaces.
o Share knowledge and insights with staff and faculty regarding trends and best practices in the use of learning technologies and audio/visual equipment.
o Consult with faculty, staff, and other institutional entities to develop strategic plans and recommendations for learning technologies and audio/visual technologies that align with institutional needs and goals.
o Supervise Student Workers in the delivery of technology support services for classrooms.
o Train and support faculty and staff in the operation and care of learning technology resources.
o Work with Multimedia Specialists and others to develop and deliver multimedia products and services.
o Continuously grow technical knowledge and expertise in instructional technology.
● Manage the organization and disbursement of learning technologies through the Learning Technology Resource Center (LTRC)
○ Organize and maintain technology storage areas assigned to ATLIS and the LTRC.
○ Help develop and implement policies and guidelines for the transfer or loan of portable audio/visual technologies to faculty, staff, and students.
○ Supervise Student Workers in the management of technology disbursement and services through the LTRC.
○ Maintain an inventory of ATLIS technologies, and keep accurate records of loans and transfers.
● Manage and maintain the university’s learning technologies and audiovisual equipment.
○ Maintain an accurate inventory of classroom learning technologies (including equipment specifications, acquisition date, lifespan, etc.) for all campus classrooms, meeting spaces, and studios.
○ Develop and implement an instructional technology and audio/visual replacement lifecycle plan to be used for equipment maintenance and replacement budget planning.
○ Maintain an appropriate backup inventory of learning technology and audio/visual equipment to ensure classrooms and venues can be supported when equipment fails.
○ Serve as a backup to manage and ensure the availability and function of audio/visual equipment in event spaces.
○ Serve as a backup to provide hands-on/in-person video conference and audio/video assistance to support event hosts.
● Assist Active Flex Course Designers & ATLIS Staff in developing multimedia content
○ Assist in videotaping lectures & other presentations for use in courses
○ Assist in setup, takedown, and operation of cameras, computers, and other technologies for recording and live delivery of Active Flex courses
○ Assist in developing graphics & editing multimedia presentations and embedding them within the Learning Management System (LMS)
○ Assist in audio recording and editing narrations, lectures, and instructor messages
○ Assist in development of documentation and how-to videos to support Active Flex technology and teaching strategies
● Support Active Flex classroom technologies and instruction
○ Ensure technology is operational prior to and during Active Flex instruction.
○ Assist faculty in selecting and connecting appropriate devices for use in instruction
○ Assist faculty in managing active learning processes using the Active Flex technology.
○ Assist online participants (faculty, guests, & students) with technology prior to and during Active Flex instruction.
○ Assist in research and administrative tasks associated with Active Flex
● Troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix Active Flex technology problems/issues
○ Provide timely assistance to faculty and students in trouble-shooting and fixing technology (hardware & software) issues associated with Active Flex courses.
○ Work with ATLIS staff to install and provide routine maintenance (change batteries, clean monitors, replace damaged technology, re-route wiring, etc.) of Active Flex technology
○ Identify potential technology needs and maintenance issues
● Create and nurture a cooperative and collaborative atmosphere that emphasizes customer service and support.
○ Assist in research and administrative tasks associated with Active Flex.
○ Proactively share and inform supervisor and staff about instructional technology opportunities and weakness that supports the mission of the unit.
○ Establish consistent expectations with all customers following established service protocols and timelines for efficient and effective service delivery.
○ Practice quality customer service in all interactions with the University community.
○ Work toward continuous improvement of the department through efficiency and end-user empowerment in support of the University mission.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience in audio/visual, learning technologies, and/or Active Flex support in a corporate or academic setting.
Strong computer skills including hardware and software.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in audio/visual and learning technologies.
Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Audio/visual or computer related certifications or degrees that show continuing education.
Course work or degree in instructional technology.
Ability to clearly design and develop training materials and topics.
Experience supervising student workers or employees
